Founded in 2005 by Jason Gilroy, Gilroy's Golf has evolved steadily from a small annexe to the side of the family home into a full indoor putting studio and custom fit centre covering some 2,500 sq. ft.
Mission Statement
At Gilroy's Golf we strive to supply the golfing world with a service and facility that is unparalleled. We seek to reward our discerning customers with an experience that will leave them feeling they have learnt more in one trip to us than they have in all the time they have been playing the game of golf!
As the world of technolgy advances so do we, introducing new hardware and software upgrades as soon as they become available, keeping us at the forefront of the golfing industry.
We also believe that it's not just the equipment that brings results, but the person operating it, that is why we aim to keep up-to-date with new theories, research & developments and embark on courses wherever & whenever possible.
Jason Gilroy (Founder & PGA Professional)
Jason Gilroy announced his arrival to the golfing fraternity back in 1997, when at the tender age of 17 he trumped a host of professional stars to become the youngest ever winner of the Sussex Open Championship. After a brief sabbatical from the game including three years in the army, Jason returned to golf to complete his PGA course under Clive Tucker (coach to David Howell) at Mannings Heath Golf Club.
Spending his time as an assistant to Clive and competing on tour, Jason managed to qualify for Final Stages of The Open in 2005, compete in European Tour Qualifying and finish high up in the PGA South Regions Order of Merit.
After living in Sweden for 6 months to compete and practice which included starts on the European Challenge tour, Jason returned to England to put his plan of a putting studio in to motion, and in November 2005 formed Gilroy's Golf Putting Studio.
During this time of developing the studio, Jason has seen his specialism in putting help a number of tour players which to date include Michael Campbell, Simon Khan, Benn Barham, James Heath, Robert Rock, Edward Rush, Terry Price and various other Challenge Tour and Europro Tour Players. Other notable names are Gary Wolstenholme and Ryan Thomas both of which are Walker Cup stars.
Jason is also a past Sussex County player and has been honoured with the task of looking after the county under 18's putting strokes which see's him attend various coaching sessions to ensure they are keeping to what has been worked on which included their annual 'training camp' at La Manga in 2007.
A strong putter himself, Jason believes in working with the individual as there can be many ways to do one thing. Using his knowledge and state-of-the-art technology in his studio, he takes pride in giving players the understanding required to go out and perform to the best of their ability on the greens.
Mike Clark (Club Fitting Specialist & PGA Professional)
Mike is a fully qualified Class A PGA professional and Level 3 coach with over 10 years coaching experience. Mike is also an expert in custom fitting and is a fully trained clubmaker in command of the state-of-the-art Teaching and Fitting Studio at Gilroy's Golf Performance Centre.
As an Assistant professional at Addington Palace Golf Club in Surrey in 1997, Mike playing competitively in the PGA's South Region events and on the Europro Tour with some success, before dedicating himself to coaching the game full time. Mike moved to the Mark Janes Golf Academy in Chessington to fine tune his coaching skills and after two years was able to secure a full time coaching position at the fabulous East Sussex National Golf Resort, in East Sussex where he taught along side Golf Monthly's Top 25 coach, Sarah Maclennan.
During his four years at ESN he became very involved with the Sussex County's junior programme and very soon became the lead coach to the Under 14's team. Mike now manages the Elite Squad for their competitive events throughout the summer and forms part of a larger team that oversees their winter coaching programme culminating in a weeks long intensive 'training camp' at the famous La Manga Club in Spain. Mike also sits on the county's junior committee as their coaching advisor.
As a coach Mike takes a holistic approach and looks at all areas of the game, especially the short game, to help each player achieve their goals. A keen student himself, Mike regularly attends seminars around the UK, Europe and America to keep his skills as up-to-date as possible. He has also been fortunate enough to be able to observe first hand some of the great coaches such as David Leadbetter, Jonathon Yarwood and Nick Bradley whilst they coach their 'Star' players.
